30 Seconds to Mars to rock Belsonic

LA ROCKERS 30 Seconds To Mars have been announced as the latest act to join the line-up for this year’s Belsonic festival.

Fronted by brothers Jared & Shannon Leto, the band makes their Belfast debut on Tuesday, August 16.

Their third studio LP, This Is War was released to massive mainstream success in 2009, and was backed by a global arena tour, including a sold-out headline show at Dublin’s O2 Arena.

Singer/Guitarist Jared is well known for starring appearances in feature films including Fight Club and Requiem For A Dream.

Building on the overwhelming success of the 2010 run of shows, Belsonic in association with Absolut returns to Belfast’s Custom House Square this August.

One of the largest and best Northern Irish outdoor music events in history, many of the 2010 events sold out some weeks in advance, with in excess of 40,000 people in attendance.

This year, Belsonic promises to up the ante yet again, providing an array of world class acts.

30 Seconds to Mars join an already packed programme of stellar acts which includes Elbow, The Specials, Beady Eye, Primal Scream (performing their critically acclaimed Screamadelica LP in its entirety), Dizzee Rascal, Example & Plan B, alongside supporting acts including The Vaccines, Katy B and Wretch 32.

The brainchild of ex-Oasis members Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer and Andy Bell, Beady Eye exploded onto the UK scene in November 2010 with debut release Bring The Light.

They headline Belsonic 2011 on Saturday, August 20.

Liam Gallagher said: ‘The people in Northern Ireland are always so up for it - they just get it. It’s like they know something nobody else does. But we’ve never played a festival in Belfast, so I can’t wait for this Belsonic thing. It’s about time I played an outdoor gig in the city, long overdue.”

Beady Eye are joined by London-based indie sensations The Vaccines, who return to Belfast following a blistering sell-out show at Queens Students Union in March.
