75 wonderful years for Ballymoney Drama Festival

Ballymoney Drama Festival, which is the oldest of its kind in Ireland, will celebrate its 75th anniversary this year by staging nine nights of high quality amateur theatre in Ballymoney Town Hall.

It will open at 8pm on Thursday 27th February. This year’s programme offers something for everyone: several comedies; two adaptations of well-known stories, at least one incorporating music; some modern American drama and a Northern Irish classic, all performed by some of the most experienced and best known amateur dramatic companies in the Province.

The adjudicator, Mr Paul Fowler, is particularly pleased to be coming to Ballymoney as so many people here share his enthusiasm not only for theatre but also for motorcycling.

Ballymoney Festival is a member of the Association of Ulster Drama Festivals (AUDF); each company performing in Ballymoney, and other similar festivals, will be scored by an adjudicator and hopes to do sufficiently well to be eligible to take part in the Ulster finals in April.

The adjudicator shares some of his views on the performance after the play each night; this can add a great deal to the experience of seeing a play.
