A celebration of Culture

Health Development Worker Eimear Teague, Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy Manager Ursula Coll and Geraldine Smyth of the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre worked in partnerships to secure the project.

It will work with young people from the Feeny area and older people from Limavady town to look at how Limavady Borough is linked to Derry City Council.

The main focus of the project will be around the River Roe and how it starts within Limavady Borough and flows into Derry City Council.

Eimear Teague, “nhip” has been working with her counterpart in Strabane Council to also look at how Strabane is linked to Derry City Council and their main focus will be the Railway.

The idea is that the two projects will bring their designs together and showcase them in Derry during the City of Culture and also within the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre and in Strabane.

The participants will work alongside Donegal artist Sinead Smyth, who has a wealth of experience. She is an Irish artist with a passion for people and the landscapes of Inishowen, County Donegal.

Her painting comes from a love of observation, which is followed in many cases by painting from memory or photographic record. She creates vibrant, energetic atmospheres and emotions.

Sinéad has spent time studying and working with several professional artists. In 2010 she won an award for her portrait in oil at the “Open Your Mind Exhibition”, NUS-USI, Northern Ireland. She has worked on many collaborative projects on both sides of the border. Her work is held in the collection of Belfast City Council and in private collections in Ireland, England and France.

The project will start in April and run for 16 weeks. Participants will visit Derry City Council and look at some of the historical features in the city, such as the Tower Museum and the Derry Walls.
