A day in the life of beauty business owner

She lives locally with ther husband Ciaran and children Rory, 5, and Annie, 3.

A typical day sees me getting up at 7am so I can get the children ready for school and childminders.

When I arrive at the salon I have a quick chat with the therapists about the treatments we have booked in for the day. I then prepare the salon and individual treatments rooms by turning on relaxing music, heating wax, steaming hot towels and dressing the heated spa beds for facials and massages.

All of the typical salon treatments like waxing, gel nails, manicure and pedicure and spray tanning are very popular but it is really facials and massages that we specialise in. Our main product range is Aromatherapy Associates London, which is a truly luxurious facial and body range. We also specialise in complete range of pregnancy spa treatments by Mama Mio, which is exclusive to us here in Lisburn. All of our therapists have had intensive training in pregnancy massage so mums to be can feel really safe in our hands. This is something I was passionate about as I found when I was expecting I had to travel outside Lisburn to get a really specialised pre natal massage.

When a client arrives to la Maison for a massage or a facial we carry out a thorough consultation so that we can choose the most appropriate treatment for them. Each client is unique with their own needs which can be anything from insomnia to muscular aches and pains. We have a selection of 13 aromatherapy associates oils which we will narrow down to just two after our consultation. We then let the client smell both oils and they chose which they prefer. Aromatherapy teaches that the oil you prefer tends to be the one your body needs.

We also stock Waxperts wax- an exciting new Irish wax taking the industry by storm. I tend to do a lot of advanced waxing during my working day as it has become very popular in recent years.

At 8.30pm myself and the girls get the salon cleaned and tidied before we leave for the day.

I just love my job and I have the most lovely clients. Having the opportunity to run my own business means a lot to me. It is very different to what is already available in the city and it definitely isn’t the typical run of the mill salon. With proper sinks and showers in the treatment rooms our clients really do get a very professional salon experience.
