Aiming to conquer

LOCAL band More Than Conquerors are aiming to live up to their name as they prepare to launch their debut EP.

The band’s frontman is Kris Platt (18) from Magheralin. He’s joined by his Belfast pals Danny Ball (18) on guitar, Danny ‘Mo’ Morton (21) on bass and Jamie Neish (20) on the drums.

The alt-rock band recently played the Mandela Hall with General Fiasco and Spring & Airbrake with The Lowly Knights. On May 13 they will launch their debut EP with a free gig in Queen’s Students Union.

The ‘MAIL’ got a sneak preview of the EP. It’s exciting stuff from the young band - an incredibly tight selection of songs laden with melodic intensity, lyrical prowess and more hooks than a Peter Pan convention.

The band first got together for the Summer Madness Battle of the Bands competition last year.

“We weren’t taking it too seriously to start with,” said Kris, a student at Belfast Met along with guitarist Danny.

“We’ve been together for about eight months. In the past we were in different bands doing things we didn’t want to do.”

Kris went on: “We have a shared interest in the same music. We’ve all the same influences - Me Without You, Manchester Orchestra, Biffy Clyro, Alexisonfire. We’re also into a lot of other Northern Ireland artists.

Kris said: “We’ve a bit of label interest. We're currently talking to an indie label about partnership and what not. We’re hopefully going to tour outside Belfast soon.”

When asked how they keep up their intensity on stage Kris said: “We do what we enjoy. We play every gig like it’s our last one.”
