Air guitar players to strut their stuff in Londonderry
Head organiser, Nathan Donnell said: “I chose the Sperrin Unit because it’s the chemotherapy unit for the hospital. It houses patients during their chemotherapy, talks them through it and even educates them about what’s happening; but they need money to keep doing it and I figure every little helps, right?”
Also for the first time organisers have recruited the help of locally sourced talent to ensure a memorable night. Nathan said: “This years competition should hopefully be the biggest yet because we have the backing from local bands and comedians. In years past it just sort of happened, this year we have a few local names doing a lot to help us out.”

Hide AdNathan will be joined by co-host and local comedian Raymond McCrossan. Raymond has been gigging north and south of the border for around two years and has headlined and hosted comedy nights in the Millennium forum. He is also the winner of Masons Gagging order. Four piece Alternative Metal band, Making Monsters are also set to make an appearance in light of their successful self titled E.P release.
The event will take place in Upstairs Masons on Tuesday 28 August at 9pm. Nathan said: “People should come down and join in because it’s one of the most fun experiences you’ll ever have! People are really apprehensive at first but once you air guitar, you’re hooked.”
Nathan has even provided two main tips to help competitors who may be a little shy. He said: “Know your song! There’s nothing worse than watching someone to pretend to play a song they don’t know but most importantly be confident! Nobody likes a quiet little rock star!”
Admission is £3 but competitors join in for free.
