Anchor to host Philippines fundraiser this Friday

A chat over a cuppa has sparked two local DJs to set up a fundraiser to help those affected by the disaster in the Philippines.

Brian Moore and Brian McKay are both DJs at the Anchor Complex in Portstewart.

As the pair were enjoying a cuppa last week, the conversation turn to the disaster, and now they have organised a special night to aid those affected, this Friday!

Brian Moore explained: “We were both discussing the tragedy of the events in the Philippines and it developed from there.

“In truth, we don’t even know all the details of what way the night will unfold, but we are aware that there are a lot of people out there who feel as strongly as us, and want to help.”

“We’re also very anxious that every penny of the money raised goes to the cause, and is not swallowed up in administration, and that’s why we’re sourcing the best organisation with which to place the funds,” added Brian McKay.

Friday nights are free at the complex, but the two DJs are hoping that the normally generous customers will consider donating to collection boxes.

“We’re fully aware that the business community are inundated with requests for items for charity prizes at this time of year, so we’re also being sensitive to that.

“So we are inviting people to leave items or donations into the Anchor reception between now and Friday, and these will be auctioned on the night.”

On the night, of course, the two Brians will be playing the discs whilst guest band ‘The Coves’ will be in The Anchor Bar.
