Anchor to stage NI Hospice gig

A COLERAINE father and son have organised a night of musical entertainment in the Anchor in Portstewart to raise money for the Northern Ireland Hospice.

Terry Sloan is hoping the event in Skippers Nightclub in the Anchor complex, on Thursday, March 25, will raise much-needed funds for the charity which nursed his late wife Elizabeth who died last year.

Son Russell and his band Happy Shrapnel have called upon some musical friends to make up an eclectic line-up of entertainment on the night.

Terry told the Times that, before she died, his wife Elizabeth had asked the family to raise funds for the NI Hospice as a thank you for how they had looked after her.

“The way the Hospice nurses looked after her at home was fantastic and we wanted to run this night to raise funds for them,” he said.

Indeed, they have provided a number of complimentary tickets for some of the Hospice nurses who looked after Mrs Sloan.

The evening will feature Happy Shrapnel who are a rock and roll band along with folk band The Hallion’s Cabaret, New Age group Strings and Skin and soloist Rikki Starrett.

“This really is an eclectic mix of music so there will be something for everyone,” said Russell.

There will also be finger food and a raffle on the night.

Tickets are 5 and can be obtained by calling the Anchor or Russell on 07709 092746.
