Art student gaining valuable recognition

The son of Joseph and Lucia Mullan, 22-year-old Sean studied his A levels at St Columb’s College before doing an art and design foundation diploma at Plymouth College of Art, receiving a distinction in the process.

Graduating in 2014 with a first class honours in fine art from Wimbledon College of Art, Sean has been selected for the new graduate scheme ‘Into the Wild’ organised by the ‘Chisenhale Studios’ which has a gallery in London.

Sean is currently working towards a group show in March at the gallery, but has just learned in the past week that he has been selected alongside 39 other artists for The Catlin Art Guide 2015.

“My interests lie in the cross disciplines between experimental film, sculpture, sound and both contemporary and historical culture,” said Sean, adding: “I am also interested in studying and observing landscapes, with a majority of my art practice extending outside the studio to varying locations.”

The Catlin Guide is an elegant, limited edition collection of artist profiles, introducing the 40 most promising new graduate artists in the UK, of which Sean is considered one. Printed annually, each edition exhibits the artists’ latest work and details future exhibitions, projects and aspirations for the coming year. The guide will launch at The London Art Fair today, Wednesday, January 21.

The guide is a coveted document in its own right.

The print run remains strictly limited and collectors invariably rush to secure a copy.
