Artist congratulated

Banbridge artist Tommy Barr has been congratulated on ‘a truly beautiful painting’ by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Oisin Quinn, at the launch event of this year’s Dublin Biennial Art Exhibition.

The International Contemporary exhibition in the CHQ building at Dublin’s Dockland starts June 13 and features the works of 55 international and national artists.

“To have been given one of the highly coveted places as an invited artist is a great compliment and a privilege” said Tommy. “The exhibition includes the work of many highly respected artists and to exhibit in such company will always be challenging and exhilarating for any artist.”

Tommy’s painting for the exhibition was created specifically on the Biennial theme of “the environment” and is titled “Reclaimation”.

The preparatory sketches were done during his time at the recent Boz’Art Festival in Vichy, France, however draw upon motifs from a number of local abandoned sites, including the old Mullan’s Corner school house between Banbridge and Dromore. For Tommy it has been important to draw details from his own personal environment.
