Arts grant for Cairns residents

The group received the award from the Arts Council of NI who awarded a total of £41,000 between nine groups in the province for stage one of Re-Imaging artist facilitation projects within their own areas.

The group is currently trying to raise much needed funds for their allotments through a summer raffle with prizes of £200, £100 and £50.

The group needs to raise money themselves to help with running costs and other things that might help the community with projects such as last year’s Hallowe’en event.

A spokesperson for the Group said: “We are trying to raise vital funds for things like our very successful Hallowe’en event last year which cost quite a bit of money to set up and was enjoyed by many people.

“We also have insurance costs, water bills, maintaining the allotments etc. We do not get grant aid for many of these things. “Any grant assistance received is used for a specific purpose and unspent funding has to be returned to funders.

“The group wishes to express their thanks to Arts Council NI for the funding, also to David Gilliland (Community Development Officer Arts Council NI) for his advice and help with the application process and to Elaine Gaston (Arts Officer Moyle Council) for her assistance with the project to date.”
