Artskills projects begins in Londonderry

Aspiring filmmakers, writers and musicians between the ages of 16 and 24 are being offered qualifications through the creative arts in a brand new Playhouse Artskills course.

Young people currently not in full time employment or training can gain OCN and CCEA nationally recognized qualifications in areas such as literacy through the arts during the twelve week course, which start next month, Tuesday, January 13.

Artskills, an award winning and innovative project, has also announced an Open and Information Day for anyone interested in hearing more about the new course. The Open Day in The Playhouse​ will be on Friday, January 9, from 11am to 2pm.

Artskills is a three day per week course that offers participants the opportunity to engage in enjoyable, creative training that increases their skills set, enhances their confidence, and also affords them employer recognized qualifications.

Expenses related to travel to and from the project, lunch and £100 completers’ bonus are all available, as is a weekly £25 EMA payment for those eligible.

“The Playhouse Artskills programme, in a mutually supportive and neutral environment ensures that all participants are given every chance to succeed – and that they are signposted towards additional training, job opportunities and pathways to further develop skills in areas such as Film & Video, Creative Writing, Digital Photography, Web Design as well as Communication Studies and Music Production,” Liam Campbell Project Coordinator said.

The Artskills project recently received the Claire’s Award for Community Impact from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure. Creative Approaches to Literacy is kindly funded by The Department of Employment and Learning, The European Social Fund, and The Arts Council.
