Back to the future for Big Telly at Flowerfield

Northern Ireland’s longest standing professional theatre company, was set up in 1987 by Artistic Director Zoë Seaton along with Jill Holmes, now the Director of the Market Place Theatre Armagh, and was based in Flowerfield until the building was redeveloped.

Big Telly is now one of the largest theatre employers in the North, with a staff team of eight, four trainees and employs over 100 freelance arts professionals each year.

Zoe says: “We’re really excited about the move, especially since we now have The BOX, our space on the Prom which keeps us very much in touch with the town and its traders and visitors. We’re looking forward to the possibility of new collaborations at Flowerfield, we’ve always felt a close connection to the venue - especially as two of our board members are ex-directors!”

Richard Baker, Corporate Director of Leisure and Development Services at Coleraine Borough Council, said: “The plan for Flowerfield was always to incorporate a wide range of arts based activities and in bringing Big Telly to Flowerfield we now have a more rounded centre incorporating both the visual and performing arts side by side.”

Big Telly will be rehearsing its latest production, One Sandwich Short of a Genius, from this week before it opens at The Playhouse in Derry on March 14.
