Ballymoney welcomes Jobs Fair

Over 570 people attended the Jobs Fair in the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre on Thursday, organised by the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) in conjunction with Ballymoney Borough Council.

Thirty-one employers including BT, Lynas Foodservice, Wright Group, Tesco, Moy Park, Debenhams, Relay Software Ltd, JMF Engineering and SJ McAuley Engineering were present on the day to advertise job vacancies and speak to jobseekers about the work of the company.

Approximately 200 vacancies, both full and part-time opportunities and permanent and seasonal jobs, were available on the day. Advice and guidance was also available on a range of training and re-skilling opportunities.

Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry said: “I recognise the important contribution which employers, large and small, have made to this event and my Department is seeking to work with business and industry as equal partners to grow our economy and to create a future in line with the Northern Ireland Economic Strategy.

“Events such as this in Ballymoney bring employers, support organisations and jobseekers together under one roof. I would encourage anyone, whether in work, unemployed or simply considering their education and training options, to explore the services which are available to them.”

Donna Atkinson, DEL Employer Contact Manager for Ballymoney, Coleraine and Ballymena, said: “The Job Fair and Advice Forum gave employers the opportunity to meet potential employees, many of whom are very highly skilled. It also provided the jobseeker with the chance to meet face to face with employers. For those who missed the event, I would direct jobseekers to www.jobcentreonline.com.”

Feedback received from both jobseekers and employers who attended the event has been extremely positive. Employers were confident that they will fill their vacancies from the Jobs Fair due to the high calibre of applicants who attended on the day.

Janine Brolly from S J McAuley Engineering commented “The Job Fair and Advice Forum was a very professionally managed event. It gives us the opportunity to interact with potential applicants and allows our recruitment to be more effective. This event demonstrates that DEL in partnership with Ballymoney Borough Council, local employers and training organisations are working together to help jobseekers find the most appropriate route into employment and employers recruit a skilled work force.”

Fred Greer, Learning and Development Manager for Wright Group, said: “We found the Job Fair and Advice Forum extremely beneficial. This method of recruitment attracts a high number of applicants of a high calibre. The Ballymoney Jobs and Benefits team were extremely professional and helpful throughout this process.”

DEL’s Careers Service was on hand to offer careers information, advice and guidance to anyone thinking about changing jobs or career direction, looking for Education/Training/Employment opportunities, or looking for information on a particular career. Assistance and advice was also available for the unemployed or those people who are ready for a new challenge on choosing a career, writing a CV, filling in application forms, interviews techniques and much more.
