Ballywillan Drama Group’s Artistic Director, Brian Logan told The Times: “Last year’s show was an amazing experience. Hairspray proved, as we knew it would, to be the ultimate feel-good family show and we wanted to continue that vibe this year.

Hairspray was a sell-out, receiving raves reviews from critics and more importantly audiences alike, and when discussing what we would do for January 2016. The group was unanimous in their approval to proceed with ‘Legally Blonde’.”

The show follows the film story line of the same name with well-known local actress Gillian Brown taking the lead role of Elle Woods.

Gillian will be joined on stage with a wealth of local talent including Alan McClarty (playing her love interest), who recently won a national award for his portrayal of Edna Turnbald in last year’s Hairspray.

Ballywillan’s productions are only amateur in name, and, as with previous shows the attention to detail placed by the production team means that the audiences see as close to a West End production as they can without leaving their own town. Shows of such quality could not happen without the help and support of the main sponsors and advertisers.

The production has three main sponsors: Spec Savers, Coleraine, McClarty Insurance, Coleraine and Lynas Food Outlet, Coleraine.

Ballywillan Chairman, Alan McClarty added: “In today’s financial climate drama companies like ours couldn’t exist without the support from local businesses. As each year passes the costs of running a group and staging shows ever rises, so it is vital to establish and nurture relationships with local companies interested in investing in their local communities.”
