Band launch a success

THE recent launch of Lisburn’s newest band - Dynamic Brass - proved a huge success.

Launched by Harold Whan and Patricia Evans the evening support from NI Brass Band Champions 1st Old Boys Association Silver Band, under the conductorship/Musical Director Mr Stephen Cairns.

The evening was opened by Harold, Chairman/Musical Director of Dynamic Brass.

He spoke about the vision he and Patricia had some 16 years ago to start a brass band. This vision was now real ‘Dynamic Brass’ was now more than a dream.

A lot has achieved in the past four months putting this new concept together and he added: “We want to encourage young people and people who haven’t played for years to come along and enjoy the social atmosphere as well as learning a whole new concept in brass banding.”

Guest of Honour was Deputy Mayor Mrs Margaret Tolerton, who was delighted to be part of the launch of this new band and venture undertaken by two local people who had a deep love and passion for brass bands.

Mrs Tolerton urged anyone with musical talent to come forward join and enjoy.

She declared the launch of Dynamic Brass and wished them all the best and invited them to play at an event on June 1, at Low Quarter Hall.

The 1st Old Boys Association Silver Band entertained the audience, who thoroughly enjoyed their programme throughout the evening.

After supper Patricia introduced young musician Andrew Milligan who is nine years old, a member of 1st Old Boys youth band he played two pieces - The Merry Peasant (accompanied by his dad Mark on keyboard) followed by Men of Harlech accompanied by the senior band.

Harold and Patricia joined in with the band playing in the second half of the programme. Harold conducted the last piece of the night a march called ‘The Great Little Army’.

Dynamic Brass rehearsals continue each Thursday at 7.30–9.30pm at Low Quarter Hall, Ballinderry Road, Magheragall, Lisburn.

The band have three engagements in June within the City of Lisburn and are looking forward to sharing their music with the community and beyond.
