Band season begins in Scarva

THE season for band concerts in Scarva, which runs from April until September, begins next Sunday April 24 at 3pm with a special performance by Heatherbrook Silver Band and gospel choir.

Delighted to learn that the popular concerts are returning to the award-winning village, Council Chairman Councillor Jim McElroy said, “It’s great to hear the village will soon become a major visitor attraction on Sundays thanks to the superb musical entertainment provided by the South West Down Bands Association.

“Last year some 5,000 visitors flocked to the village to enjoy a relaxing afternoon and hopefully this year it will welcome a greater number of visitors.”

Along with the sweet music, visitors with a sweet tooth will be able to enjoy the tempting refreshments available at Scarva Visitor Centre. Portadown-based business Dolce and Gelato - renowned for their scrumptious ice cream - has been contracted to provide catering services at the visitor facility this year.

An array of bands will perform in the village every Sunday between 3pm and 4pm throughout May. They include Jinglers Bridge Accordion (Sunday 1 May), Castlewellan Accordion Orchestra (Sunday 8 May), Wellington Silver Band (Sunday 15 May), Dungannon Silver Band (Sunday 22 May) and St Mark’s Silver Band (Sunday 29 May).

Further details of the season’s programme can be obtained from Scarva Visitor Centre. Alternatively, contact Banbridge District Council on 4066 0605 or visit www.banbridge.gov.uk
