Bank Holiday getaway is boom-time for Giants Causeway

Local tourist attractions in the area enjoy a huge 48 percent spike in takings as families rush to take advantage of a long weekend in local castles and distilleries when visiting Ireland’s famous ancient basalt columns.

The influx of tourists also benefits local hotels with takings increasing by 11% while restaurants also enjoy a welcome boost with hungry visitors causing card sales to grow 23%, when compared to the average. It’s not just families however that hit the area though – with an extra day to recover from their hangovers; revellers pack the pubs and bars, leading to a 23% spike in sales.

“Now that we’re a nation of staycationers, Irish seaside towns will do well from long weekends. According to some estimates, holidaying in Ireland is now worth €840m** to the economy.

“It’s no surprise that the rugged coastline of County Antrim and the Giants Causeway is a favourite among visitors, but local businesses should still be doing everything they can to stay ahead of the competition.

“Taking card payments, rather than waiting for tourists to slowly count out their cash, will help businesses cope over the busy periods. Staffing and service levels also need to be at their best to make a good impression and hopefully ensure repeat visitors over the summer months.”
