Hide AdThe project, which had been principally funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Lottery Fund, has enabled almost 800 primary and secondary school children from across the city to come together and enjoy the fun and experience of creating music. The project which has been taking place since January, has involved other cultural and community bodies based in the City and forms part of the lead in work to the City of Culture 2013.
A wonderful new piece of music, ‘Further Shore’, has been commissioned by the City of Culture and will be performed on the night. The music has been inspired by work by Seamus Heaney who has kindly given permission for his words to be set to music. Further Shore is a new work for Barry Douglas, Camerata Ireland and the choir of St Cecilia’s College.
Barry Douglas said of Camerata Ireland’s developing connections with the city: “I am very excited to be bringing Camerata Ireland to Christ Church. The concert will be an exhilarating end to the work we have been doing in the city since January. This will be a wonderful evening bringing together the Camerata Ireland orchestra, a terrific local choir and the composer of the inspirational piece of music especially written to mark this event. Camerata Ireland is grateful to all the bodies and individuals who have been working together to make this evening happen, particularly the Arts Council of Northern Ireland”.
