'Beers 4 Spiers line up revealed

Twelve of Northern Ireland's finest bands will come together to pay tribute to Trevor, and help raise money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

This week, we can reveal more about the concert.

Organiser Mark Sheppard told The Times: "Trevor was a great friend, and he is sadly missed by many.

"When I was asked to play a few songs at Trevor's funeral reception, I saw it as a great honour to pay tribute to a friend of nearly 20 years.

"It was the least I could do, given that when my band was playing in gigs in quiet pubs, Trevor rounded up a crowd and brought them along to the gig - making the night more memorable. That's the sort of friend he was."

Mark went on: "At the funeral I played our version of 'Wonderwall' by Trevor's favourite band, Oasis. I looked around, and everyone was arm-in-arm singing. I know Trevor would have loved this.

"Amongst the grief there was a great feeling of solidarity and that's how the Beers4Spiers came about."

Mark explained how he contacted local bands to try and 'rope them in' for the fundraiser.

"The response I got was phenomenal. I sent out 15 emails and nine of the bands I emailed confirmed that they will be coming along. We were delighted that Kelly's came on board too."

The concert itself will be held over two stages - one in Lush Live! and the other in Rhe Synk.

There will three headlining bands - The Pat McManus Band, Bon/Fire, one of Ireland's top AC/DC tribute acts and The Fool Fighters, a very talented Foo Fighters tribute act.

Also taking part will be Swanee River from Londonderry, Lisburn's Bandwagon, and Dark Horse who will open the main stage.

The Synk stage will host six live acts. Portrush singer/songwriter Darren Patrick, Mac and Bo, and Trevor's father, James Spiers who is flying in from England to perform at the event.

Other bands include Tommy Shots, Coleraine band, The Reno Room and Zero Resistance - a Rory Gallagher tribute act from Limavady.

Doors will open at 6:30pm and live music will begin shortly after that.
