Budding lisburn stars take to the stage in Les Mis

THIS year Les Miserable celebrates its 25th birthday and to mark the occasion in Northern Ireland, Theatre at The Mill in Newtownabbey is staging its own professional version of the smash hit musical from Tuesday August 10 to Saturday August 14, directed by Peter Corry who previously starred in the West End show.

The schools edition of the show is one of the most successful youth led musicals globally and Les Miserable School Edition at Newtownabbey will showcase the cream of N.I's top young performers who have been taking part in the theatre's Summer Youth Group, including a host of young Lisburn performers.

Not only will the talented young cast be working with Peter Corry, they will also be under the direction of musical theatre experts including NI Musical Director Wilson Shields and Choreographer Fleur Mellor. For fans of musical theatre this is the show to see with Theatre at the Mill providing an opportunity to see locally a professional version of this popular musical.

For those not familiar with the sweeping musical adaptation of Victor Hugo's great novel that has become one of the most popular musicals of all time. It focuses on the struggle of ex-convict Jane Valjean and his experience of redemption. Set in France petty thief Jean Valjean is released from his 19-year term and not only becomes an honest man, but the mayor of a prosperous town and a loving adoptive father- violating his parole in the process. He is consequently pursued by the relentless Inspector Javert, who makes a decent life for Valjean impossible. Only years later, after Valjean proves his mettle during a bloody student uprising, does the ex-convict finally feel fully redeemed.
