Bushmills writer attends Hewitt Summer School

Two local writers, Emma Kane and William Methven, were delighted to to be awarded Causeway Area Arts Bursaries to attend the annual John Hewitt Summer School in Armagh.

The Summer School is a week long festival of culture and creativity inspired by the work of local writer John Hewitt with talks, readings, theatre and writing workshops.

This year’s theme was: ‘Coming to terms: learning to live with difference’.

Much of John Hewitt’s archive material is held at the University of Ulster at Coleraine.

Emma, from Portstewart thanked the Coleraine Arts Committee a for their efforts in securing two bursaries awards for the Causeway Area for 2015 she added: “This was a positive and encouraging experience that has brought me a step closer to finding my voice in the written word.”

William, from Bushmills, was also enthusiastic about his week, he said: “I found the John Hewitt Summer School an outstanding opportunity to immerse myself in the world of creative writing.”
