Bushvalley flautists rise to the challenge

Mrs Creelman, Year 5 teacher, along with Adam Feeney and Callum Gibson, two Year 6 boys from Bushvalley Primary School travelled on Saturday 13th September to ‘The Big Flute Challenge’ at The King’s Hall, Belfast.

It was an official attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘Largest Flute Ensemble’. As it stands, the current world record is held in Japan and was achieved by 3,742 participants in 2011. The aim was to exceed this target with 4000 participants.

A special composition had been commissioned specifically for the event and was performed in 
order to try to break the record.

This was fantastic, as participation in this event was open to everyone who plays flute, regardless age and opened the appeal to those with musical interests ranging from Classical Flute right through to Traditional Irish Flutes.

Mrs Creelman would like to take this opportunity to thank Louise Feeney and family, Marie Gibson and family, everyone who showed their support via sponsorships and, last but not least, Callum and Adam for their participation.

“It was an amazing opportunity and a great event for the boys to be involved in,” she said.

“At Bushvalley Primary, there is a school orchestra led by Mr Creelman (who also attended the event), which offers children an amazing experience as they get to gain experience of other instruments, play in a group which helps with rhythm and most importantly feel a sense of achievement whilst developing their instrumental skill.

“Playing in this much bigger ensemble was a great experience for Callum and Adam and one which, no doubt, has made them even more enthusiastic about 
our school orchestra this year. We all have a t-shirt as a memento along with our fond memories of the
 day.”
