Cancer charity gigs in Ground cafe

Then Ground Coffee Shop in Ballymoney’s High Street is the place to be over the next three Tuesday evenings as the popular cafe plays host to some special charity gigs.

Tuesday October 6th, 13th and 20th from 7.30 to 9.00 pm will see local musicians giving of their time freely to entertain at Groud.

Admission to the events is free but there will be an opportunity for donations to be made to cancer charities. Gerry McLaughlin is a well-known country, folk and blues artist from Ballymoney and he will bring a number of friends to kick off the events at 7.30 on 6th October.

Talented young people from Dalriada School music department will perform on October 13th led by the school’s head of music Mrs Heather Montgomery while on October 20th one of Ballymoney’s best known traditional musicians, Deirdre Tasker (nee Havelin) will lead the Causeway Traditional musicians in a night of high energy traditional Irish and Scottish music.

“As far as we know this hasn’t been done in Ballymoney before, and to get this quality of musician to give up their time to support cancer charities is a fabulous gesture,” commented the events organisers.

“Cancer claims the lives of people regardless of age gender or race and to be able to support those who care for cancer sufferers or research and develop treatments is something that we all should all be involved in. “This is a fun way to do so and we are hoping local people will turn up, have a cup of coffee, listen and enjoy good music and make a donation to the charities.

“As well as the musicians mentioned we also welcome any other musicians in the area to come along and sing a song or play a tune. It would be great to have an open mike where anyone can join in.”
