Capturing the wind – capturing the moment

FAIRHEAD Photographic Club recently held its Club Print of the Year Competition.

The winner of the Club’s Perpetual Shield this year was Martin Reid with his action shot of the wind turbines at Corkey.

Following an action packed year, the club is currently making preparations for its third Annual Exhibition to be held in Holy Trinity Church, The Diamond, Ballycastle on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th May.

The exhibition is an opportunity for club members to display the work they have produced over the past year. In addition to the prints on display, there will also be a continuous projected slide show, including images from the “Faces of Ballycastle” Exhibition which was held in the Ferry Terminal in December 2009. Exhibition opening hours are 10.00am until 8.00pm on Friday and 10.00am – until 6.00pm on Saturday. Admission is free.

The club is one of the fastest growing clubs in the area, with almost forty members. The varied and exciting programme of events on offer has attracted members not only from the local Moyle area, but from places further afield, including Ballymena, Coleraine, Ballymoney and Portrush. One member, who joined the club last September commented “Its not only the great programme on offer which appeals to me about this club, it’s as much the friendly and helpful atmosphere. It doesn’t matter how much or how little you know about photography – everyone is very willing to help each other out. I think the success of the club is due to the great spirit of

co operation which exists within it – the committee does a great job organising the club and everyone else is very willing to help out as required”.

Club Secretary, Mary Hill commented: “We have been delighted to see the membership of our club grow consistently each year. Following our Exhibition, the club will have a summer break until September, when our new programme of events will get underway. New members are always welcome and if you want to find out more about the club, come along to the Exhibition where you will see examples of the range of work produced by club members and have the opportunity to chat to them”

The club would like to thank Rev D. Palmer for once again agreeing to the use of Holy Trinity Church as a venue for the Exhibition. This beautiful venue is in a very convenient location in the centre of town and club members look forward to welcoming many visitors over the Bank Holiday weekend.
