Caring Caretaker fundraiser will be a Showstopper!

The Britannia Concert Band and Londonderry Musical Society have once again combined forces to present their 24th season of Showstoppers - with one show in aid of Coleraine’s Caring Caretaker.

This year’s production will be packed with a variety of West End classics and popular concert features performed by the very best talent from the North West in the run up to the City of Culture year.

The unique combination of concert band, choir and soloists has consistently thrilled audiences all over the Province.

This year the venues include the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh on Thursday 15th November, Coleraine High School on Friday 16th November, Millennium Forum Londonderry on Friday 23rd November, The Alley Theatre Strabane on Thursday 29th November and Limavady High School on Friday 30th November.

Ken and Jim Goodman share the Musical Direction, with Ken in charge of the Britannia Concert Band and Jim conducting the LMS.

The programme this year will include a fantastic collection of show tunes from stage and screen, featuring music from Cabaret, Fiddler on the Roof, Gilbert and Sullivan, as well as tunes by the Beatles, Bert Bacharach, Irving Berlin and Andrew Lloyd Webber. There will also be a selection of popular classics including Viva Tonight made famous by Katherine Jenkins, as well as Snow Patrol’s Run.

The band is delighted to welcome a number of new members, both young and not so young, to share the stage with the existing mix of dedicated amateurs and local professionals.

The programme this year includes the music of Irving Berlin and Leroy Anderson.

Michael Buble’s well known numbers, I’ve Got You Under my Skin, Moondance and Save the Last Dance for me featured in Crooner’s Serenade. as well as a separate arrangement of Haven’t Met You Yet from the same composer.

The band switches to the traditional march Punchinello by W Rimmer. Next the haunting Eire evokes the land of Ireland and this is contrasted with the rousing Viva Italia. This year the specially featured swing group of band members under the direction of Solo Trumpet and Assistant Bandmaster, Robert Goodman promises to excite.
