Carrick-a-rede book launch

A STUNNING new book recording bygone days of traditional fishing on the north coast, will be launched this Saturday

'Carrick-a-rede…Beyond the Bridge' presents the only photographic record of the Carrick-a-rede Salmon Fishery which has now ceased after some 350 years at the historic landmark.

The fall in salmon stocks has left only the curiosity of the Bridge as a tourist attraction and a challenge for the brave-hearted to venture across.

The 130 black and white photographs, presented over 120 pages, documents this incredibly unique and labour intensive way of life at the fishery, including the removal of the famous rope bridge which provided the fishermen with access to their station and finishing with a contrasting set of images on how the new bridge is put in place by a team of professional riggers.

Portstewart based multi-award winning former press photographer, Peter Nash, will be signing copies of the book throughout the day at the National Trust's Shop at the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge site - the perfect excuse for a day out.
