Catch David Lyttle at Millennium Court

Waringstown drummer, songwriter and producer David Lyttle’s latest album Interlude merges hip hop, soul and jazz, and was championed by the MOBO Awards and BBC Radio 1’s Introducing.

Following live dates with Interlude in Britain and the US, he returns to acoustic jazz for a 14-date Irish tour featuring rising star British alto saxophonist Tom Harrison (Heather Small) and Irish bassist Neil O’Loghlen (Louis Stewart).

The tour includes Belfast, Waterford, Cork and Derry, as well as smaller towns such as Kinsale, Westport and Castlerock.

Lyttle, who also runs independent record label LYTE Records, said: “I’d wanted to do a hip hop project for years and I’m really happy with how the album has been received. I’ve established that sound as part of what I do and I’m working on my second album in that style, but I never had any intention of moving away from acoustic jazz.

“I’m keen to reignite that side of my career, which I had to put on hold while I promoted Interlude. The jazz influence on the album relates more to the chord progressions rather than the drum grooves. I love laying down hip hop and soul grooves, and writing songs, but I’ve missed being a jazz drummer a little.”
