Celebrate National Nest Box Week

As part of National Nest Box Week, come along to Springhill to learn about the lives of our feathered friends, and how and where they make their home at Springhill.

Nest Fest takes place on Saturday until Tuesday, February 13-16. This is the perfect excuse to get outdoors, and to top it off the little ones get in free during February mid-term!

On Saturday and Sunday bird enthusiasts can pick up tips from our Estate Team. They will be busy taking down last year’s nest boxes to reveal what has been nesting in them, clean, repair and re-erect them ready for birds that are beginning to pair up and look for a place to nest this season. Visitors will get the chance to see the different nests built by robins, blue tits, blackbirds and thrushes.

Children can enjoy making natural bird feeders and snacks to take home plus craft activities to make and do. Explore the beautiful Springhill estate on the fascinating nest spotters trail, collecting nest materials as you go to help us build a giant bird’s nest in the natural play area, made with a collection of twigs and branches found in and around the grounds. Little ones can snuggle up in our cosy nest corner for story time with our wise owl. On Monday and Tuesday, Annaginny Farm will bring along ‘Ally’ the Owl to let the children get up, close and personal with this amazing bird.

Enjoy a steaming hot bowl of soup and wheaten bread in The Servants’ Hall Tea-Room and browse the hundreds of second-hand books in the Well-Read Bookshop.
