City guitar festival to feature music of ABBA

The 12th City of Derry Guitar Festival, which takes place August 21-24 2014, will be celebrating the music of ABBA at the Guitar Gala Concert on Friday, August 22, at the Foyle Theatre, North West Regional College, Londonderry.

Swedish dynamic duo Sound of Strings are set to bring the house down with their arrangements for classical and acoustic guitar of great ABBA classics such as Dancing Queen, Fernando and The Winner Takes it All.

Sound of Strings are a guitar duo featuring Swedish guitarists Thomas Hansy and David Hansson, also known as the Gothenburg Combo. The project originates from a genuine love of ABBA music:

“Sound Of Strings was formed in a desire to return to our youth. We were brought up with the music of ABBA and we find it very liberating to play all those amazing songs that were such an important part of our childhood” - Sound of Strings.

French guitarists Thibault Cauvin, one of the leading lights on today’s classical guitar scene, will also be performing on the same night. Other artists performing at the Festival on Thursday and Saturday night will include Carlos Bonell, Gordon Giltrap, Manus Noble and John Walsh. Concert tickets cost £12, £10 concession and £6 for students. Festival Passes are also available.
