Screened as part of a multi-platform project with BBC Radio 2 and bbc.co.uk, the series dissects the traditional band, looking at what makes each of the individual members tick.

It will culminate in a live studio show next month, in which industry experts discuss their favourite musicians before creating the ultimate fantasy band.

This first programme examines the role of the singer, often the mouthpiece of the band and a gateway to the fans.

Look out for: Contributions from such music legends as Jon Bon Jovi, Siouxsie Sioux, Garbage veteran Shirley Manson, the Who's Roger Daltrey, Alice Cooper, Bob Geldof and Sting. Plus, Radcliffe's fellow broadcaster, and the man who helped make Slade one of the 1970s most successful acts, Noddy Holder.

What's it all about? In the first of a new series, Lewis certainly has to keep an eye on his partner in this opening episode; Hathaway is clearly traumatised after giving evidence in a murder trial after finding the body of a 10-year-old girl.

To make matters worse, their latest case takes him back to his childhood home of Crevecoeur Hall, a sprawling Oxford estate which was once managed by his father. He's retracing the final steps of Dr Stephen Black, who visited the house during a bus tour - his murdered body was later discovered on the vehicle.

Afterwards the new estate manager is also found dead, seemingly having shot himself. But his possible motive for suicide doesn't wash with Lewis.

Expect tears and tragedy when Hathaway is reunited with his childhood sweetheart; and his older boss must race to save him from what could literally turn out to be a broken heart.

The World's Fattest Families and Me (Channel 4, 10pm)

What's it all about? In the last of the current series, roving reporter Mark Dolan travels the world to see why some folks become grossly overweight.

In Tonga he learns that physical bulk is a sign of beauty and wealth. However, with a national diet of pork, lamb fat, imported corned beef and the appetising-sounding 'mutton flaps', little wonder the island's population is one of the most obese on earth.

Mark is also amazed to learn that Western food businesses offload specially 'high fat' versions of their products on the local market.

The parents of one-time child genius Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) have been murdered, and Luther quickly realises the grown-up prodigy is the killer.

However, it seems the suspect isn't content with just a battle of wits, as she turns her attention to the detective's estranged wife.
