The Lurgan actor explained the idea behind the show: “Gok is making his stage debut and the cameras are tracking his every movement,” he said. “With the cameras being on all the time it’s very different to any other rehearsals in that you have to watch what you say.

“Gok is very friendly and very generous. When we’re in the pub he won’t let anyone put their hand in their pocket. He’s very down to earth. We forget how famous he is, until we’re out and he gets mobbed.”

Conleth added: “The rehearsals have been going really well. It’s the biggest panto in the UK. Monday was our first day in the theatre and it really brought home how big this is going to be.

“It holds 1,800 people and we’re doing two shows a day, six days a week. I’m looking forward to it, but it’s going to be very hard on my knees.”

Conleth plays one of the dwarves, Wheezy, and in order to look the part Conleth and the other dwarfs will be on their knees wearing specially made knee pads to move around during the whole show.
