As the nation gears up for a spectacular summer of footy, The Corner House in Lurgan is in the running to be whisked off to Rio De Janeiro, after making the shortlist of the McCoy’s search for a pub to put on a plane to Rio.

More than 2,000 pubs were nominated in the competition and tens of thousands of votes cast, in the McCoy’s ‘Rio McCoy’s Local’ competition, which gives ten lucky pub goers the chance to watch the games from their favourite spot in their local pub, recreated in Rio.

Just a stone’s throw from the famous Copacabana beach, McCoy’s plan to create a version of the winning pub complete with all its much loved British comforts including roaring log fires, wobbly bar stools and pool tables, in Brazil this summer.

Landlords and their loyal locals all over the UK have voted for their favourite local online at mccoys.co.uk/riolocal and thanks to the fantastic support of their regulars, The Corner House has made the final five.

Landlord, Trevor McCann, said: “I’m ecstatic and so proud to have made the top five of the Rio McCoy’s Local competition and can’t wait to hear if we have won. Taking The Corner House to Rio would be an amazing experience and we’d love to introduce the locals to our good old fashioned hospitality.

“We’ve had such a great response from our staff and our local for this competition, it’s been a real team effort. We’ve got lots of footy fun planned for the summer including a carnival party, games and prizes.”

The pub will now go up against the other four finalists at the celebrity judging panel, hosted by Al Murray, The Pub Landlord, with the winner announced in early April.
