Countryside events continue

Ballymoney Borough Council in association with the Bank of Ireland invite you to come along to the next two popular countryside events in the 2014 summer Programme.

The first is the Long Mountain Ramble in Dunloy on Thursday 31 July, 7.00-9.30pm. This 4 mile circular ramble follows the country laneways and turf roddens in the vicinity of Carness top and Ballymacaldrick Mountain, and passes adjacent to the spectacular Garves Wind Farm.

Walkers will be joined by staff involved in the wind energy industry and can avail of the opportunity to find out about the benefits and opportunities offered by wind energy.

Weather dependent, there may be a chance to visit nearby Lough Naroon and take in the magnificent views from Long Mountain. After the return walk to Dunloy village, welcome refreshments will be made available. Walkers should bring warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy boots as the route may be quite wet in places.

A moderate to good fitness level is required. Participants should meet at St Joseph’s Parish Centre Car Park, Dunloy at 7.00pm sharp. Cost is £2 per person.

The next event is the Benvarden Estate Walk on Tuesday 5 August, 7.00-9.30pm.

This 3 mile circular walk is centred on the beautiful Benvarden House and Gardens. It is one of the oldest estates in Northern Ireland, acquired by the McNaughten family in 1636.

The Montgomery family are the present owners and Hugh Montgomery will lead a guided walk through the spectacular grounds.

Following the walk, participants will be able to enjoy refreshments and there will be an opportunity to view and purchase from the beautifully landscaped gardens. Numbers are limited to 80 persons by pre-booked ticket on a first come basis. Tickets costing £3 per person, are available by telephoning 028 2766 0227 or by calling in person to Riada House, 14 Charles Street, Ballymoney. Participants should have a moderate level of fitness and bring waterproof clothing and sturdy boots. The assembly point for the event is in the lay-by at entrance to Benvarden Estate, Benvarden Road at 7.00pm sharp.
