Crafty line-up for Dromore’s part in Arts Fest

A CRAFTY collection of events has been lined up for Dromore’s part in the upcoming Banbridge District Community Arts Fest.

The annual festival seizes upon the old Town Hall and the public library within as venues for a series of workshops and storytelling sessions for children and adults alike.

Events kick off in Dromore on Saturday, October 13 with “a fun-filled” family ‘Take Part in Art’ day in Dromore Town Hall. A “Throughout the day,” said a spokesperson for Banbridge District Council organisers, “families with children of all ages can join in a host of wonderful workshops where they can try their hand at making everything from a scary dinosaurs or a pretty princess to 3D sculptures, personalised wall art and individual accessories to match their favourite outfit.”

Each workshop costs £3 and anyone wishing to book a place should contact Banbridge District Council on 028 4066 0605.

Then, on Thursday, October 16, storyteller Lexy Higgins will “enchant the family with amusing tales and silly stories” at a free storytelling event in Dromore Library at 10.30am.

“The fun continues,” the spokesperson went on, “with the ‘Button It’ children’s workshop on Saturday, October 20, 2–4pm in Dromore Town Hall, where artist Linda Carmichael from Ruby Bijou will help children aged 6–11 years make a quirky piece of jewellery that is sure to get you noticed. “

Wednesday, October 24 will see a gathering ‘Around the Hearth’, from 7-8pm in Dromore Library, where renowned storyteller Declan Forde will recount his poems, songs and stories born of the ceili-house tradition. Places cost £3 and booking is advised - contact Dromore Library 028 9269 2280.

With the Dromore events wrapping on Saturday, OCtober 27, locals are invited to help bring the festival to “a spooky end” at the ‘Ghastly Ghouls and Pretty Pumpkins’ family workshop in Dromore Town Hall (2–3pm or 3–4pm).

“In this workshop,” said the spokesperson, “all the family can make a scary Halloween creation ideal for trick-or-treating or to place at your window to ward off the witches.
