Cullybackey drummers roll up high scores at World Championships

Cullybackey Pipe Band drummers returned home from the World Solo Drumming Championships with an impressive display of silverware.

Those among the top rankings were: William Glenholmes (Adult, 5th), Matthew Wenlock (1st & Juvenile Section Two World Champion), Rachel McLeister (Tenor Drumming Runner-Up), Marcus Wenlock (Juvenile Section Three Drumming, 3rd) and Scott Galloway (Juvenile Section Two, 5th).

Cullybackey Pipe Band drummers secured no less than 7 top-ten rankings. This makes them the most successful contingent at the world championship event - held last weekend in Glasgow.

The annual event – sponsored by Andante Drums - was hosted by the RSPBA in Glasgow Caledonia University and attracted players from across the globe. Out of the 10 drummers travelling from Cullybackey, 8 performed in the finals of their respective disciplines making it the most successful World Solos in the history of the band.
