‘Cup Cake’ screening in Ballymoney Town Hall

Proceeds from the evening are being donated to Community Rescue Service, a charitable organization operated entirely by volunteers from communities all across Northern Ireland.

The greater Ballymoney area is covered by the Bush Unit under Unit Commnader, Margaret Elliott. The Bush Unit works closely with units in Coleraine and Ballycastle to cover the north Antrim area.

‘Cup Cake’ was filmed at Leslie Hill estate on the outskirts of Ballymoney as well as Kelly’s pub and Gaults in Church Street: The Barber Shop in High Street: Ballymoney Town Hall: St Patrick’s Parish Church and Tesco. Many local people also turned up during the filming in the town to be movie extras. The film has won a host of awards since its deput at Belfast Film Festival last year.

John Leslie who is a native of Ballymoney, and whose family own Leslie Hill, was the film’s Art Director and Location Manager and was instrumental in bringing the filming to Ballymoney.

Mayor Kennedy said: “I thank John Leslie and Wee Buns Productions for partnering with us in this event. The people of the town gave a warm welcome to the production teams and actors during the production of the film and I am delighted to be able to host this gala evening in Ballymoney. I invite citizens to come along and be part of the celebration of our movie town and at the same time support a very worthy cause.”

The film screening is at 8pm. Doors open 7.15pm with pre-show entertainment. Tickets £5.00 are on sale at Ballymoney Town Hall and Council Offices, Riada House.

The story of the film is that P.J. is in a pickle, his parents are missing, he is a spectacular failure at running their bakery, ‘Cup Cake’, and he is up to his neck in debt with the local loan sharks. To add to his misery, he has been duped into marriage by their impossibly tanned and serially jilted sister, Kitty. Enter Gala, a mysterious, beautiful artist with a few tricks of her own.

P.J., a robot-obsessed dreamer and his hapless friends, aided by the ever resourceful Gala, set about cooking up the revival of ‘Cup Cake`s’ fortunes, and spicing up P.J`s love life along the way.

The film has won the following awards: ‘Audience Award’ Belfast Film Festival 2010; `First Prize’ Best Feature Category Rhode Island International Film Festival 2010; ‘Grand Prix’ Best Feature Category Flickers North Country Film Festival 2010. Honourable mention - Fargo Film Festival 2011.
