Cushendall Rally Event coming soon

For anyone interested in Irish motor sport or for anyone who wants to find out more about the sport of rallying, Cushendall will be the place to be on Wednesday 30th July.

A rally car display evening will take place in The Glens Youth Club (former site of St Aloysius’ High School) on the Coast Road at 7.30pm.  This free event is organised by Cushendall Presbyterian Church, Shore Street.  The event will provide a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with a number of Christian rally drivers (all of whom currently compete in events such as the Glens Forest Rally, Lurgan Park Rally, and Circuit of Ireland) and their vehicles, including race modified MK2 Escorts and Subarus. 

The evening is aimed at race fans and novices alike and it should prove to be fun for all the family. There will be rally cars on display, rally driving demonstrations, a free BBQ, rally videos, and a question and answer session, where the drivers will share information about their faith and also about how it feels to race around a forest track at 150 miles an hour in the dark.

Those in attendance on the evening will have the opportunity to take part in a range of challenges including mini digger driving, wheel changes, and Guess the Horse Power with the winners receiving the opportunity to experience life in the co driver’s seat as the cars are put through their paces around the track at the end of the evening.

This is just the latest in a series of events organised by the Presbyterian church in Cushendall,  over the last few years, in an effort to develop closer links with the Glens community, and it is just one of a series of events happening next week (28th July – 1st August). There will be a space themed holiday bible club taking place in the church for all the young people of the village at 10.30 each morning. On the Monday evening there will be a treasure hunt around the village leaving the church at 7.30pm. On Wednesday at 3pm there will once again be an extremely popular afternoon tea for all ages, and the week culminates with a large free BBQ at the church on the Friday evening at 7.30pm.  All events including the rally evening are free and everyone is welcome.
