David Lyttle and friends in town

The David Lyttle Three featuring Andreas Varady will play in Palomo cafe this Saturday.

Locally-raised drumming star of Ireland David Lyttle stops by Palomo to promote his new CD with 13-year-old apprentice Andreas Varady, a fast-rising name on the international jazz guitar scene, and renowned bassist Bandi Varady.

David Lyttle has been hailed by the international press as one of the most important jazz artists to emerge from Ireland in recent years.

From Waringstown, he began his performing life at the age of four with notable family folk group The Lyttle Family. His groups have featured top-tier globally-respected artists such as Greg Osby, Soweto Kinch, Andreas Oberg and Jean Toussaint.

A doctor of music, he is also dedicated to jazz education and research. He currently directs jazz workshops for the University of Ulster and Sligo Jazz Project.

Lyttle is also frequently talked about in the press for his mentoring of thirteen-year-old Slovakian guitarist Andreas Varady, who has lived in Ireland since 2007. Last year the young prodigy appeared on BBC and RTE radio and television, and guested at major jazz festivals with guitar heroes Louis Stewart, Andreas Oberg, Tommy Emmanuel and Martin Taylor, who featured him at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival. Their new album ‘Questions’ features US bass colossus Michael Janisch and Andreas’ father Bandi, a renowned rhythm guitarist.
