David teams up with Duke for new single

Following the success of his latest album Interlude, musician/producer David Lyttle continues to diversify, this time in a dance project with Northern Irish arts organisation Beat Carnival. Heavily touted in 2012 by MOBO, the Daily Mirror, Hot Press and BBC Introducing on Radio One, Lyttle is set to release ‘Celebrate’, the first single from his upcoming EP.

Fans will not be surprised by the producer’s shift to dance music, given his already genre-hopping reputation; Lyttle has collaborated with a host of crossover artists both as a live performer and as a producer, including Mercury-nominated Soweto Kinch. ‘Celebrate’ features the percussionists of Beat Carnival, who have been bringing Latin and Afro-Cuban sounds to various international music festivals since 2005.

The track references synth sounds of the eighties, soulful nineties house and a general funkiness that is associated with much of his recent work. Irish vocalist Rhea, whose voice Hot Press described as ‘gorgeous and silky’, sings a soulful chorus, and Meteor-winning singer/songwriter Duke Special contributes a powerful spoken word segment in the breakdown.

With DJ sets in New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles booked for this August, Lyttle is happy to be back in the dance music world: “As a teenager in the nineties I was making dance music and appearing as a DJ on the Northern Irish club circuit.

In a way this is a return to those times, with the added influence of other types of music I’ve been listening to and performing over the past ten years.”

‘Celebrate’ is out June 23 on and available for pre-order on iTunes. The video for the single is on YouTube and features larger than life papier mache effigies of the performers.
