Digital revolution at CultureTECH festival

THIRTY of Northern Ireland’s top startup companies from across TV, gaming, music technology and mobile and web applications will be on show at the region’s largest digital technology event later this month.

The showcase, which will take place as part of the CultureTECH festival in Derry-Londonderry at the end of August, will be the largest gathering of technology and media startups in Northern Ireland this year.

As festival organiser Mark Nagurski explained: “CultureTECH is a celebration of all things digital from gaming to music and TV to animation. And while we’re bringing in over 70 leading industry speakers from the UK, Europe and North America, we are also extremely keen to show off some homegrown talent. With a month still to go, there are already over 600 delegates confirmed to attend - many from outside Ireland - making this an ideal opportunity for smart young companies to launch or demo new products and services in front of a connected and influential audience.”

The showcase is being supported by Invest Northern Ireland as part of their wider involvement in the festival. Brian Dolaghan Director- Business Services Invest NI added: “There is no doubt that the last few years have seen an explosion in the number of new startup companies coming through in areas like gaming and web applications. Invest NI has long been committed to helping showcase companies like these through our involvement in overseas events like SxSW - so working to create an event here in Northern Ireland that could provide a platform for young companies made perfect sense.”

The showcasing companies will be chosen through a combination of open application and direct invitation from the festival organisers. Any company utilising technology is free to apply, provided the product or service they want to showcase was launched in 2012 or will launch in the coming months - ensuring that new products are given centre stage. Each selected company will also be given free VIP passes to the festival, allowing them to network with seasoned industry professionals, potential investors and the media.

“We would strongly urge anyone in the digital or media sectors with a new project to promote to put themselves forward. Even just attending the event will be a tremendous opportunity to learn from and network with a truly impressive lineup of speakers.” Mr Dolaghan continued.
