Do you have a ‘Locke’ of cash to invest in story of city legend?

Josef Locke was a legendary showman who lived life one way, to the full.

But all was forgiven...because of the voice.

And now you can get involved in a unique piece of music theatre exploring that legend- his life, music and legacy!

Using fundit.ie, an online platform for people with great ideas to attract funding, The Playhouse is inviting audiences to get involved in the tour of ‘Josef Locke: A Grand Adventure’.

In 2014 The Playhouse brought the life of Josef Locke to the stage. Written by Felicity McCall and directed by Kieran Griffiths, the piece saw esteemed singer Karl McGuckin join local musicians for an affectionate look at Locke’s life, music... and his tax affairs.

After the storming success of the world premiere, the theatre now has bigger plans to raise £3,000 in an online campaign to develop the hugely successful piece of work further, taking it on the road to bigger stages throughout Northern Ireland.

The show will tour to The Millennium Forum on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October, and Lyric Theatre Belfast from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 November.

“We so excited to get audiences invested in a musical and theatrical treat! You can help bring well known familiar Locke favourites back to the stage- including ‘Hear my Song’, ‘Danny Boy’, ‘Kathleen’, and ‘Galway Bay- all performed by graduate of the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Karl McGuckin” Director Kieran Griffiths said.

“Karl is a former All Ireland Feis Ceol Winner for Best Baritone Voice, and has sung with Opera Ireland, Lyric Opera, Welsh National Youth Opera and Ulster Operatic Company.

“He perfectly captured the spirit of the flamboyant and mischievous Locke, a much loved world famous tenor with a sense of humour. His wayward behaviour and vast earnings created a celebrity story like no other in its time.

We just couldn’t resist building an online campaign to bring Locke’s legacy back, due to popular demand, for this exciting tour!”
