Donegal actress to star in dark exploration of identity

Developed from an original script by Dave Kinghan and described as “a dark and daring immersive exploration of culture, art and identity”, this multimedia play is based on the life and work of the internationally-renowned performance artist.

With a career spanning more than three decades, Osram has spent the last few years out of the spotlight, but the reclusive Osram is now rumoured to have crafted his own ‘funeral’: an exhibition celebrating his career and resulting in an original performance piece – one last great work of art.

Audiences will find themselves immersed in a performance retrospective tracing the path of the elusive Osram’s life and work, featuring videos, photographs, ‘interventions’ and interactive exhibits.

Starring well-known Donegal actress, Megan Armitage who has starred in a host of productions both sides of the border, including C21’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Playhouse Derry/ Dear Conjunction’s The Clearing, Fickle Favours Shakespear’s Sisters, Prime Cut Productions Seven Lives for Liberty, and many works by the Gaiety Performance Theatre Company, Guilt Therapy, Seven Stories and End of the Line.

She said: “It’s a very unusual piece, which I think is both fun for the audiences and actors or actress alike. It’s a theatre experience that can be enjoyed by everyone, whether you’re a fanatic of theatre or just looking for a social night out.”

The play, though entertaining, explores issues around identity, and challenges us to consider: what stops us from being the fullest version of who we are? What makes us self-censor? Why are we often embarrassed to be ourselves?

With identity as a topic on the steady horizon, this is a real opportunity for audiences to reflect.
