Dracula star: Limavady is ‘gorgeous’

Evans, who plays the leading role in an intriguing new adaptation of the classic vampire story, joined director Gary Shore in his praise of Limavady.

The Roe Valley town was was treated to a Hollywood whirlwind earlier this month with the arrival of ‘Universal Pictures’.

Bram Stoker’s 116 year old novel ‘Dracula’ is set to hit the screens later next year with another adaptation, this time directed by Irish Director Gary Shore starring Welsh actor Luke Evans (Fast and Furious 6) playing the coveted title role alongside Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia), Sarah Gadon (Cosmopolis) and Samantha Barks (Les Misérable).

The leading man, Luke Evans of Fast and the Furious fame, was more than enthusiastic about both the film and Limavady.

“By the end of the day we had a really impressive little audience watching, we couldn’t believe it”, said the Welsh star.

He described his gruelling day of filming at O’Cahans Rock: “I spent eight hours in the water filming, and to top it off they were spraying my face and hair with water” Despite his uncomfortable and long day, he said he was “excited to go back out and do it again.”

Director Gary jokingly added that he was “perfectly fine in his waders and waterproof clothing.”

While the long hours of filming were not the most comfortable, both men had nothing but praise and gratitude for the incredible surroundings of Limavady.

The Roe Valley Country Park and O’Cahans Rock proved to be the idyllic setting for the dark tale with its undeniable charm and unique scenery. Luke Evans was more than impressed by Limavady, branding it “absolutely gorgeous” and said he was “thrilled at how welcoming and excited people were” about the filming.

When the large white vans and trailers arrived in town, there was a certain spark in the air, a buzz that Limavady hadn’t seen before. On the days prior to filming, the Roe Valley Country Park and O’Cahans Rock had a constant stream of people taking a look at the impressive equipment and sets being built.
