Dromara’s Allison guest of fledgling WI

Established fewer than 12 months ago, in October 2011, Lisburn City Belles are eager to raise their profile across a wide area and say a warm welcome awaits any would-be new members from among the ranks of Lisburn natives who may have moved to surrounding areas, including Dromore.

A spokeswoman said, “Following the learning curve of its inaugural year, Lisburn City Belles WI has set the foundation for an interesting programme of monthly meetings for the 2012-2013 calendar, with the launch of its new logo, which is a representation of the proud industrial heritage of Lisburn.

“The first meeting is on September 20, when Allison Abernethy of Abernethy Butter-makers will be giving a butter-making demonstration; her award-winning butter and fudge are locally produced by traditional methods, and show how the rich milk of the Dromara hills makes the best produce. We’ll be joining in and then eating the proof of our labour.”

The Lisburn City Belles, the spokeswoman said, were a friendly group of ladies, of all ages, from all backgrounds.

“And we would make you very welcome,” she added.

Open to new members, the Institute meets at 7.30pm on the third Thursday of the month at Lisburn Racquets Club, Belfast Road, Lisburn.

Membership is £25 and visitors can attend for £3.
