Drum roll

A TALENTED young member of Third Carrick Brass Band has been selected to perform with the Ulster Youth Orchestra.

Percussionist with the band, Matthew Brown (below) first lifted the drum sticks in P4 and hasn’t stopped playing since. Classically trained, his range covers instruments such as timpani, xylophone, snare drum and even four mallets on the marimba.

A pupil at Ballyclare High School, Matthew’s spare time is in short supply since he is a member of the school and NEELB orchestras too. Last summer saw him playing percussion at Peter Corry’s production of Les Miserables at the new Theatre at the Mill, Mossley. He also plays drum kit with his church praise group in St John’s and with local Christian folk band Albanagh.

Teacher Johnny Montgomery has been very supportive over the years and is working with Matthew for his Grade 8 exams in Drum Kit and Tuned Percussion.
