Drum roll! the UK Pipe Band Championships are set for Stormont

Belfast is tuning up to host the UK Pipe Band Championships at Stormont Estate for the first in a three year contract with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association.

130 of the finest pipe and drum bands from all over the United Kingdom and Ireland will be competing for the coveted title of UK Champions on Saturday, 11 June.

This free, family friendly, all-day event attracts thousands of visitors.

The Lord Mayor, Alderman Brian Kingston who will be Chieftain for the day, said: “We love hosting this spectacular event in Belfast. It’s a colourful, memorable day out for family and friends, with a very special atmosphere – and I know the musical talent on display will be incredible.”

Ian Embelton, Chief Executive of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA), said: “We’re really looking forward to being back in Belfast again. Stormont’s setting is stunning, we get such a warm welcome and the enthusiasm and support from the spectators is just amazing.”

Performances will get underway at 9am with junior and individuals grades competing and progressing to the Grade 1’s in the afternoon. The finale is a march past display prior to the prize giving. The event closes at approximately 6pm.
