Dunluce Castle Open Day invite

DUNLUCE Castle, Portrush, is one of hundreds of national heritage sites which will throw open its doors to the public later this month in a bid to bring our local history to life.

The late medieval castle will be open on September 10th and 11th as part of European Heritage Open Day which is a free event organised each Autumn by Northern Ireland’s Environment Agency.

Running from 10am to 6pm over the two days, it will feature an exhibition as well as a guided tour known as “my tour talk”.

European Heritage Open Days offer the general public a once-a-year chance to discover Ulster’s hidden architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours and events that bring our history and culture to life.

One of the most popular attractions on the list, Dunluce Castle is a 17th century battlement parts of which date back to the 14th century when the castle belonged to the MacQuillans. It subsequently passed into ownership of the MacDonnell clan before being abandoned to the elements..

Information on all of the properties opening their doors over the weekend is available on the DoE NI website www.doeni.gov.uk or visitors can email [email protected] or telephone 028 9054 3022.
