Eric Morecombe brings sunshine to Lisburn's Island

IN 1984 Britain's best loved comedian, Eric Morecombe, died at the age of 58. 25 years later his life was celebrated on the West End stage in one of the most acclaimed biographical plays this decade.

Direct from the West End to the Island Arts Centre on Monday June 21, this extraordinary portrayal commemorates the 25th anniversary of Eric Morecambe's untimely final curtain, celebrating the wonderful life of Britain's best-loved comic.

Featuring the multi-talented Bob Golding - who could have been born to play Eric - penned by the brilliant Tim Whitnall and directed by solomaestro Guy Masterson, Morecambe is a must-see for all fans of classic British comedy.

For an entire generation the Morecambe and Wise Christmas show was the highlight of Christmas Day. In 1977 they had 28 million viewers – half the entire population - watching at the same time.

In the twenty five years since Morecambe's untimely final curtain his popularity has not waned. With numerous tribute programmes, TV re-runs and DVD releases, his work, as one half of Britain's most popular double act ever, has been kept alive and introduced to a whole new generation of fans.

Following his sell out Edinburgh Festival run, Bob Golding brings his uncanny portrayal of this remarkable man to the Island Arts Centre.

From Morecambe Pier to 'Andr Preview', from tumbleweed to Glenda Jackson, Morecambe offers a moving and gloriously funny portrait of the affectionate lad with the funny bones, the big-hearted perfectionist, the born entertainer.

Golding has won an army of admirers. These include some of the country's favourite comedians who have been bowled over by the actor's extraordinary likeness to the man himself, many of whom were Eric's contemporaries andfriends.
