Eugene stars in unique mobile film

LURGAN actor Eugene Hynes has starred in a film shot entirely on a mobile phone.

The 20-minute film ‘Seance’ directed by Peter Ferris was premiered last month in the Dockers Club in Belfast.

Over the last two years under the tutelage of Peter local actors of all ages have made 12 films and have just begun to film on smartphones - all without any public funding.

Peter Ferris comes to Belfast on the last weekend of each month to teach the masterclass and direct the films.

Eugene said: “Peter has been amazing. Since I started the classes with him I haven’t look back.

“The premiere was another excuse to put on the tux. I’m getting used to it!”

Peter said: “Five years ago I turned 40 and having been born just before and lived through the ‘Troubles’ until the mid eighties, I knew it was time to return home and give something back, I had been blessed in my career with mentors and I knew what I had to do.”

Since then Peter and his business partner Tony Myers, who set up and runs smartmoviemaking.com, set up the iPhone/smartphone Pop Up Film Festival and masterclasses and are being invited worldwide to major festivals and events to show their films and give talks on the new technology.

“I knew due to the way that we had made our films in the masterclasses in the last two years that we and Northern Ireland could lead the world in this new technology and on mobile film making.” Peter said.

Against a backdrop of riots and more sectarian violence, filmmaker Peter Ferris chose his home town to show his new film Seance to an invited audience at the cross-community Dockers Club. Seance was filmed using actors from his monthly screen acting masterclasses that he runs in the city.
